USATF and Let’s Move! Active Schools have selected the first eight schools to receive RunJumpThrow Equipment Kits grants, USATF announced October 19. The grants from USATF will provide equipment that schools may use for teaching the basic skills of all running, jumping and throwing, whether in the classroom, as part of before and after school programs, or through sport clubs and teams.
More than 150 schools submitted an application during the first open enrollment period from June 1-July 31 to receive a grant. Schools were selected to receive a grant based upon financial need, amount of students impacted by the grant, overall involvement in sports, after school programs and other factors that promote physical activity outside the classroom.
The following schools each will receive a USATF RunJumpThrow equipment grant:
- P.S.59 William Floyd Elementary (Brooklyn, NY)
- New River Elementary (Wesley Chapel, FL)
- The Vida Bogart School for All Children (Bronx, NY)
- Thorntons Ferry School (Merrimack, NH)
- Elcan-King Elementary School (Bainbridge, GA)
- Ambassador School of Global Education (Los Angeles, CA)
- Morris Avenue Intermediate (Opelika, AL)
- Idlewild Elementary School (Charlotte, NC)
Through RunJumpThrow, kids participate in fun, hands-on learning events designed to build basic running, jumping and throwing skills. The RunJumpThrow toolkit for educators includes a turnkey, six-week curriculum and instructional DVD demonstrating as many as 20 physical activities. RunJumpThrow may also be conducted in schools as a single-day event. The equipment kit will assist teachers in the execution and teaching of the program and skills.
Through teaming up with Let’s Move! Active Schools, USATF is awarding a grant to one Lets Move! Active Schools-enrolled school every week for one year leading into the 2016 Olympic Games. Each grant will be used for purchase of a RunJumpThrow equipment kit.
Enrollment and applications for the second round of USATF RunJumpThrow Equipment Kit grants is under way. The current open enrollment continues through October 31. Apply for the grant HERE.
