Establishing an active school is an important step toward ensuring opportunities for movement throughout the school day are weaved into the school culture and fabric. While the extensive benefits of physical activity are well-established, there is a substantial need for time, support, resources, and effort to establish an active school culture. Therefore, we believe schools should be recognized for their hard work!
The school recognition process has several layers, including the opportunity to earn points for implementing evidence-based practices, awarding badges for attaining benchmarks within each of the elements, recognition for achievement across elements, and receiving awards for earning Active School recognition status.
To earn school recognition, schools must submit an application for review. Applications are reviewed three times per year (August, December, and May), so all practices implemented to-date of each application period will be included in the application.
